Dr. Phil Calvert
Senior Pastor
Prayer is a central focus of Pastor Phil's vision for the church. Through more than two decades in Gospel ministry, he has learned that the first step in standing powerfully for God is kneeling prayerfully before God.
Pastor Phil was a United States Fulbright Scholar to Iceland and earned his Ph.D. in Political Science from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, where he was a Morris Doctoral Fellow. You can read the story of his time in Iceland published by the United States Fulbright Association at Dr. Calvert's Fulbright Article
An ordained minister, Dr. Calvert and his wife, Kristen, served as missionaries in Ecuador and Peru. They have four children (Nathaniel, Benjamin, Rebekah Praise, and Abigail). Abigail was born on the mission field in Quito, Ecuador.
Dr. Calvert has taught at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary as an adjunct faculty member, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary as an Assistant Professor of History at the College at Southwestern, Truett-McConnell University as the Associate Professor of Missions and Associate Director of the World Missions Center, Gateway Seminary as an adjunct faculty member, and Arizona Christian University as an adjunct faculty member.
He is the author of five books: The Gift of Courage, The Gift of Justice, The Gift of Unity, The Gift of Prayer, and a children's book titled, How to Say 'No!' to a Princess. You can read more about these books at thegiftofcourage.com, giftofjustice.org, thegiftofunity.com, thegiftofprayer.org, and saynotoaprincess.com. They are available on his web site shapedbygrace.org and at Amazon.com.
Pastor Phil wrote and produced three songs, "Leaving Me in Pieces," "Going Broke Saving Money," and "One Boot Off," which are available on more than 150 music platforms worldwide. "Leaving Me in Pieces" was written to minister to those who have experienced, or are currently experiencing, the long illness of a loved one. There is a full version and a radio version. "Going Broke Saving Money" is a fun country song. "One Boot Off" was written to celebrate the special relationship between parents and their children. You can listen to these songs on your favorite music platform or at leavingmeinpieces.com, goingbrokesavingmoney.com, and onebootoff.com.
The Calvert family's passion is discipling believers to become full participants in the Great Commission, and you can watch his encouraging devotionals on his YouTube Channel at christforlife.life.
